Leading expert on antique quilts makes a featured guest appearance on the Martha Stewart Living show.
I am travelling from overseas to Chicago and Springfield, IL in a few weeks and am wanting to buy an antique quilt or two. Where in Chicago or Springfield can I buy a (reasonably priced) antique quilt?
"west of Chicago in DuPage county) to a quilt shop named The Quilt Merchant.(www.thequiltmerchant.com)
The shop stocks strictly Civil War reproductions and a few 30's reproductions. It's full of new, antique re-creations!!! Many of the quilts

My Great-Grandmother made a quilt decades before I was born. It was recently given to me with years of being handled. I want to be able to pass it down when my children are old enough. I love to cuddle up with it as I did when I was young but it continues
At this point there is nothing you can do but put the quilt in a display box.
When the fabric begins to disintegrate, you have to replace it.
Once you start, there is no stopping. The thread has most likely disintegrated

We're hoping to catch up with my friend, Sheri, in Kentucky and while there we'll go to Paducah (lots of antique and quilt shops). We'll go and see the original of my hexagon star quilt project at Scotchtown in Virgina. more quilts. I've been feeling a bit flat lately without work to focus on so this has given me something to look forward to. I like to have routine in my life and it has been difficult without it. With preparing to put our house on the market there is lots... And, finally, a week in Pennsylvania to see how the Amish live, learn about the history, and. I don't feel needed....
and it will be time for another room to fix up. You see we have a very old, never been updated house in which we really only have updated one room entirely. With starting the business (the antique store) we focused all of our savings to getting that started. ) I am so boxed in with our woodwork - I love the off-whites/tans you showed - but noticed that I like the white trim that they have. We have been living here for almost 24 years and have changed almost nothing (except my son's room twice. All of the other rooms are filled with prims, but we would really like to redo the walls, ceiling and floors for each. and as they say one room at a time. well I for one do not want to makes changes for awhile again. Unfortunately, changing out the trim and extensive woodwork here isn't feasible. So, I'm not much help in your decision-making - not seeing the whole "space," I guess I would opt for the tan palette vs. the green. Good luck to you. Good luck my friend....

Dawn Heese finds success as professional quilter
She started by watching her great-grandmother quilt and then picked up the hobby for herself 13 years ago. But it wasn't until 2008 that she patched the pieces together to start a quilting business that united the old tradition with today's techniques.
