Is it safe to use a humidifier brand that has been recalled before?

Jan 13, 2007 by needhelp | Posted in Other - Home & Garden

I'm interested to buy a humidifier called: Hunter Care-free warm mist humidifier. This specific product has been recalled due to potential fire hazard. There are 4 reports from consumers of minor property damage from water leaking to the electrical components

There are several good humidifiers on the market that do not have that problem. Shop around a little or contact Consumers Reports for a list of recomended brands and models
You can lso contact a local HVAC company that sells and installs humidifiers

ShopSmart Identifies Dangerous Baby Products

31.12.69
The June 2012 issue of ShopSmart magazine, from the publisher of Consumer Reports, highlights 12 baby products that can put babies at risk and identifies safer alternatives parents should use instead. When you buy a baby product, mail in the registration card that comes with it -- for most items, your information won't be used for anything other than notifying you about safety issues with the product. Not all baby products available for sale are safe to use -- last year, 40 percent of all recalls were for kids' products. The report also describes how to achieve maximum safety when using items such as jogging strollers, safety gates, and baby monitors. Here's a sampling of baby products to avoid - the full list is available in the June 2012 issue of ShopSmart and online at. www. Many widely sold baby products can put your child at risk of injuries or even death. "Many people think that if a product is for sale in stores that it must be safe," said Lisa Lee Freeman, editor-in-chief of ShopSmart.

HEALTH HAZARDS IN THE HOME A Major Problem Today! Is Your Home Toxic?

Source: WELLNESS SOURCE

More than 72,000 synthetic chemicals have been produced since WW II. Less than 2% of synthetic chemicals have been tested for toxicity, mutagenic and carcinogenic effects, or birth defects. We spend 90% of our time indoors, and 65% of that time at home. Another EPA study stated that the toxic chemicals in household cleaners are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor air. An EPA survey concluded that indoor air was 3 to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. CMHC reports that houses today are so energy efficient that "out-gassing" of chemicals has no where to go, so it builds up inside the home. The average home today contains 62 toxic chemicals - more than a chemistry lab at the turn of the century....

A Cure for the Cold?

Source: Clickege: Bringing an End to Boredom

And there's just not enough rigorously performed research to know whether folksy remedies — such as hot tea, garlic or chicken soup — have any effect, say pediatricians Rachel Vreeman and Aaron Carroll, authors of  Don't Swallow Your Gum. So researchers have to rely on imprecise measurements, such as asking people to rate their symptoms on a scale. There's no objective way to assess whether something makes someone feel less congested or sneezy, Taylor says. And many studies are of such poor quality as to be unreliable, he says. That's partly because big drug companies tend not to invest in studies of common foods or products that people can buy anywhere....
