Would a smaller dehumidifier work as well but put out less heat?

First shall I say thanks so much for everyones help. I must say I know nothing about dehumidifiers and have learned more from this site than any whwere else, including the sales people who knew less than me. My deal is that the dehumidifier definately

May I suggest using a small (in window) Air Conditioner instead of a dehumidifier? AC's work partially by reducing the moisture in the air, and also work to lower the ambient air temps...

(And they typically drain the water outside)

high humidity in basement...what can i expect? should i open the door?

relative humidity is 90-% down there. it's 80% outside (i live in st. louis, missouri). would the humidity level go down if i open up my door? get some air get some sun light?

i've a 70 pint dehumidifier now and it's been running three

You must be in a really soggy area if the humidity outside stays at 70%! Get some air pumped into the basement on drier days, with an exhaustion fan ducted to outside, or let it rot.
